Photoshoot FAQs with Isabelle Creates: What to Wear, How to Prepare, and What to Expect

So you’re thinking of booking a photoshoot with Isabelle Creates in Missouri, but you have questions. I’m here to help. I’ve come up with some frequently asked questions for what to expect when you book a photoshoot with me—whether it’s in Hannibal, St. Louis, or somewhere in between.

General Questions

  1. What can I expect during a photoshoot with you?

Hi, I’m Isabelle! I’m just a midwest girl looking to help you capture your moments in time so you can always have something to look back on. I promise I’m nice—I just want you to be as comfortable as you can be and have a great time! I’m not looking for the next top model, I’m looking for you.

Whether you’re doing a couples session, engagement photos, family portraits, or pet photography in Missouri, I’ll have prompts and poses ready that I think will work best for you and will show you them as we go. So you shouldn’t have to think of anything—unless you really want to!

  2. How do I book a session with you?

Email me at isabellekroeker@gmail.com or check out my Bookings page where you can fill out the form! I will get back to you as soon as I can during regular business hours.

  3. How long will the photoshoot last?

This depends on which package you choose. I offer several options at different price points. If you’re looking to book, reach out using either of the above mentioned ways and I will send you my offer sheet! (Don’t worry, I don’t charge an arm and a leg.)

  4. Do you offer location suggestions, or can I choose my own?

Both! I love suggesting spots and have a list of favorite photo locations around Hannibal, St. Louis, and other parts of Missouri depending on the vibe you want—rustic, nature-filled, urban, or scenic. But I’m happy to use your favorite location too.

  5. What happens if the weather is bad?

It’s Missouri—so anything can happen! I’ll monitor the weather the week leading up to your photoshoot and if it does rain or storm, we’ll simply postpone and reschedule.

  6. Can I bring props or pets to the session?

Absolutely! Pets are part of the family, and they deserve a moment in the spotlight too. As for props, we can absolutely talk through your ideas and make sure they work for the location and vibe you’re going for.

  7. Do you work with children or large families?

Yes! I love working with kids and big groups. I have a basic family photography package, and if you have extended family joining, there's a small add-on available.

  8. Will you help me pose? I’m awkward in front of the camera.

Everyone worries about feeling awkward, so you’re not alone! I’ll guide you with poses and prompts throughout the shoot and do my best to keep things light, fun, and easy.

  9. Do you offer outfit changes during the session?

Yes! Most of my portrait sessions and couples shoots allow for one outfit change.

What to Wear & How to Prepare

  1. What should I wear for my photoshoot?

    • Just you: Stick with solid colors. Jeans and a nice top always work. Try to pick colors that compliment your skin tone and hair color.

    • Couples or families: Try matching tones or shades of one color. Jeans for bottoms work great, and neutral colors like creams, whites, or muted tones are always classic.

    • Grads or seniors: Dresses, jumpsuits, or a button-down with slacks are ideal. But ultimately, wear something that feels like you.

These tips apply whether you're in downtown St. Louis, the countryside near Hannibal, or anywhere across Missouri!

  1. Should I get my hair and makeup professionally done?

Totally optional! I love your natural self just as you are—but if getting dolled up helps you feel confident and excited, go for it.

  2. Do you offer wardrobe consultations or client closets?

Not at this time, but I’d love to see what you’re thinking of wearing and help you decide!

  3. Are there any colors or patterns I should avoid?

Please avoid neon colors and stripes. Subtle patterns can be okay, but solids photograph best.

  4. How do I coordinate outfits for couples or family sessions?

Refer to the first question above! Start with denim or neutral bottoms, then build from one or two complementary colors for tops. I’m happy to help if you’re stuck!

Day-of

  1. What should I bring to my photoshoot?

Yourself, your loved ones, and maybe a few fun extras like a picnic blanket, flowers, or your dog. For engagement sessions or creative portraits, a bottle of bubbly or themed props can add a fun twist—just let me know in advance!

  2. When should I arrive for my session?

Arrive on time. I schedule sessions based on lighting (especially sunset photoshoots), and being late could mean losing the best light.

  3. What if I’m running late?

Things happen! Just shoot me a message and we’ll adjust as best we can.

  4. Where do I park or meet you at the location?

’ll send you a meeting point and parking instructions for each location—whether it's a downtown St. Louis spot or a park in Hannibal.

  5. How do I keep my kids (or partner) engaged during the shoot?

    • Couples: My plan is to mostly get shots of you both, so your partner should have something to do during the whole shoot. I love using movement-based prompts to keep you both interacting naturally.

    • Families: I try to be as entertaining and encouraging as I can! I will do my best to make sure they are having a good time, and they might get a little sticker or something at the end.

After the Session

  1. When will I receive my photos?

You’ll get 3–5 sneak peeks within 24 hours. The full gallery will be delivered within a week.

  2. How many images will I get?

It depends on your package, but I tend to overdeliver. You’ll walk away with a good number of edited, high-quality images.

  3. Will I be able to choose which photos I receive?

Yes! I’ll send you a private gallery where you can download all or just your favorites. You’ll also have the option to order prints.

  4. Do you offer photo retouching or editing?

I edit everything in my signature style—natural, warm, and rich tones. If something small is really bothering you, I may be able to make light touch-ups.

  5. Can I print my photos through you?

Yes! You’ll find a Buy Prints option in your gallery, connected to my professional print lab.

  6. Do you offer albums or other photo products?

Not in the gallery, but I’d love to create something special for you—like a custom-designed photo album or collage. Let’s talk!
